On November 26, the State Duma adopted in the second and third readings the bill on bioresource centers and biological (bioresource) collections, which establishes the basis for state regulation of the creation, formation, conservation, development, research and use of biological (bioresource) collections in federal ownership, as well as the formation and organization of activities of bioresource centers.
Sergey Kabyshev, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education, told the Parliamentary Gazette that the adopted law “is of strategic importance, as it is designed to support the biodiversity necessary for sustainable life, to preserve rare species from extinction, to increase the competitiveness of domestic science in the development of genetic technologies, and to ensure national security”.
