Alexey Yuryevich Borisov, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Head of the Laboratory of Genetics of Plant–Microbial Interactions (2000-2015), died on March 22, 2025. Alexey Yuryevich worked at ARRIAM for more than 30 years.

His path to science was not easy. After graduating from the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet and working for a year on the stage of the Leningrad Conservatory, Alexey Yurievich decided to devote himself to biology. After graduating from evening school, he enrolled at Leningrad State University, as a student, which he joined at ARRIAM. His scientific activity was devoted to the study of the genetic control of the formation of legume-rhizobial and endomycorrhizal symbioses. It was he who, for the first time in Russia, obtained pea mutants based on symbiotic traits, laying the foundations for a genetic collection that is still the pride of the Institute. His high communication skills made it possible to organize a wide network of international cooperation at ARRIAM, whose work was supported by numerous international grants and resulted in the publication of a series of articles in prestigious scientific journals.
The bright image of Alexei Yuryevich Borisov, a great scientist, reliable friend and comrade, will forever remain in our hearts.
