The laboratory was created to conduct scientific research within the framework of the project "Mobilization of the genetic resources of microorganisms on the basis of the Russian Collection of Agricultural Microorganisms (RCAM) at the All-Russia Research Institute for Agricultural Microbiology (ARRIAM) according to the network principle of organization", implemented in accordance with the terms of Agreement No. 075-15-2021-1055 of 28.09.2021 on the provision of a grant in the form of a subsidy from the federal budget to scientific organizations and educational organizations of higher education for the implementation of certain activities of the Federal Scientific-technical program for the development of genetic technologies for 2019 – 2027.
The research purpose of the Laboratory is studying the biological diversity of economically valuable microorganisms using methods of molecular genetics and genomics.

- Search, isolation, and cultivation of strains of economically valuable microorganisms
- Genome-wide sequencing of economically valuable microorganisms
- Depositing of selected strains in the Network Bioresource Collection in the field of genetic technologies for agriculture of the FSBSI ARRIAM
- Functional annotation of genomic loci determining beneficial properties of microorganisms
