New research by the Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Biology on the composition of the symbiotic interface in legume nodules of various types.

Researchers from the Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Biology continued their research (https://doi.org/10.3390/ijms241813850 ), modifications dedicated to the symbiotic interface (interaction surfaces of the macro - and microsymbiont), in nodules of various Legumes. In order to be used: oriental goat (Galegaorientalis Lam), circulating nodules of a non-deterministic type, and cultivated soybeans (Glycinemax L.), forming a deterministic type group. Analysis of a wide range of components of the symbiotic interface: pectins (homogalacturonan, rhamnogalacturonan I), hemicellulose (fucosylated xyloglucan), arabinogalactane proteins and arabinogalactanoprotein extensins revealed both common and species-specific components. Thus, in non-deterministic nodules, a linear galactane side chain of rhamnogalacturonane I was present in the walls of infectious filaments, which in deterministic nodules was determined in the cell walls of uninfected cells, and fucosylated xyloglucan accumulated in the walls of infectious filaments. It has been shown that in nodules of both types, arabinans (crosslinked with rhamnogalacturonan I and included in arabinogalactane proteins) play an important role in the development of infectious structures, in particular at the early stages of symbiosome differentiation.

Previously, we have already identified differences in the composition of the symbiotic interface between two species of Legumes forming a non-deterministic type of nodules (Pisumsativum L. and Medicagotruncatula Gaertn.). Thus, it is obvious that it is necessary to study different types of legumes, since the data obtained for model Legumes may not always be applicable to other species.

These studies were conducted within the framework of a state assignment under the supervision of the V.N.S. laboratory of A.V. Tsyganova and were published in the article:
